WHAT IS INVESTING
What is investing? This is a question that many people are asking or would want answered. A lot of people are interested in investing but one would not really be able to do this successfully if the question of what is investing is not first explained to them. Investing is a broad term that can be used quite widely. For example, one can say that investing is whatever is done or spent so as to realize an objective. Concurrent with this very basic definition, you hear of investing one’s time or investing one’s effort in pursuit of the actualization of a goal or objective. In parlance with financial circles, this definition may be found leading to still the question; what is investing?
In financial circles, investing takes on a monetary definition. So any thing of financial value that is expended to achieve a financial aim may thus be deemed as investing. The two underlying key factors would be that the thing invested in can be measured in monetary terms and the aim is financial in nature; which is profit. So the aim of investing is to increase one’s assets. One invests certain amounts or goods with the aim to acquire more goods or money or to increase the value or worth of any existing goods.
Now that the question of about the definition of investing has been answered, it can clearly be seen that this economic activity is almost as old as man himself and is carried on by almost all in different degrees and proportions. Governments, corporations, individuals and business organizations all engage in investment activities. It should be mentioned, however, that there are some investment purposes that are not driven purely by the profit motive. The buying of a house, car, and art works can all be investment activities if the aim is to help increase ones present or future asset value but many individuals invest in these things because they need them or simply want them. There are different investment opportunities and training and information is vital to engage in any activity successfully.
